Gas Leak on Via Marina Under Investigation

Note: This information is verbatim from the Department of Beaches and Harbors

Gas leak appears unrelated to well re-abandonment project

Due to fluctuating lower level methane readings above background at the air monitoring locations, as reported by the Operator, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) requested that the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) visit the site. AQMD inspectors went out on January 30th and discovered a gas leak coming from a Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) gas line servicing port at the intersection of Via Marina and Marquesas Way.

SoCalGas is on-site investigating the source and severity of the leak, and is working to make the necessary repairs. At this time, the leak appears to be unrelated to the well re-abandonment project, and appears to be limited to the immediate vicinity of the servicing port.

Public Health, Los Angeles County Fire Department-Health Hazardous Materials, and AQMD continue to monitor the situation.

If you smell gas in this vicinity, please leave the area and dial 9-1-1
