Venice Pier Sports Labyrinth for the Holidays

Venice Pier sports a labyrinth for the Holidays — 22 December thru 27 December.

The labyrinth is a joint effort by Andreas Hoenigschmid with his crew and the Venice Pier Project to celebrate the winter solstice, the king tides, and the Holiday Season.

Andreas has done many of the sand sculptures that Venice Update has photographed.

“The design has a yellow “flower” meditation center which had not been photographed when that pic was taken,” said Noel Johnston, Venice Pier supporter. “It also has accurate north/south directional arrows on it. I understand that it is the first time that any design has been applied to the pier and we hope to be able to do more in the future.”

Labyrinth was removed Friday morning according to Noel Johnston. See comments below.

  1. We (with much help from RAP) took it off the pier this morning and were sad to do so. We had nothing but appreciative comments while it was up and it was gratifying to see so many people enjoying it. We hope to do it again and have had all sorts of suggestions for future geo-projects on the pier.

Noel..this was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in Venice and it’s a shame it can’t be something permanent. You and Peter and doing some really amazing work on the Pier. Thank you!

Hi. Thank you for doing this. It’s been my vision since moving to the west side to see a labyrinth at end of the pier. And you made it happen. I had reached out to parks and rec and they weren’t so helpful. I even planted a seed to the labyrinth society. But YOU made that happen. And I missed it! Why can’t it be permanent??? Brings such love, joy, and peace to the community and visitors. It’s a walking meditation that is so beautiful to take people on a sacred journey. I’ve been walking them for years. Please bring it back
