Those in blue are members of Allied Universal, the “safe” team and those in orange are members of Chrysalis, the “clean” team.

Rollout of both the “Safe” and the “Clean” portions of the Business Improvement Districts (BID) program will begin Monday (14n May).

The BID meets the second Friday of the month, 10 am at Mishkon Tephilio, 206 Main Street, Santa Monica.  Their web site is VeniceBeachBID.com.  The new telephone number for both the office staff and special service requests was announced Wednesday and is 310-396-8243. Now members can ask for particular services, such as graffiti cleanup.

Both “Safe” — Allied Universal and “Clean” — Chrysalis introduced themselves or their project leads with members of the respective teams Friday at the monthly meeting of the BID. They each explained their duties and then the meeting was opened for questions. After the meeting Paul Williams of Chrysalis explained that they would be taking care of the area from the door to the curb.

Allied men will ride bikes and explained that they were to observe and report, document with photos and call police when necessary.  All Allied men have background checks and are approved by the LAPD. They will carry handcuffs and pepper spray.

Questions ranged from treatment of gangs at the beach to health issues that have been brought up by Dr. Drew, the radio commentator. Once again it was explained that the BID was not the sole source but was supplemental to the City services and private services. When one lady mentioned that she had to clean her steps every morning before people came to work at 9 am, Tara Devine, chief executive officer, explained that services would evolve with the tasks.

It was agreed that Allied Universal would meet once a month with property owners to iron out any problems that might occur.
