Unhappy with New ReCycle Trash System — Why?

A single-server trash system was initiated this year to be more efficient for the City and less costly for the tax payer. It was to be the trash provider for commercial and industrial properties and large residential properties. Councilman Mike Bonin has received many complaints in his district and is trying to get to the bottom of the problem. If you are a user, please help by filling out the online survey.

Dear Friends,

If you are having problems with the new trash service in Los Angeles, I want to hear from you. Can you take a few minutes to answer a survey about your experience with RecycLA?

Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation launched a new system for collecting waste, recycling and compost from business and apartment buildings. The RecycLA/Zero Waste LA program is an exclusive franchise system intended to increase recycling and move Los Angeles closer to achieving “zero waste.”

Since the program started, I have heard significant complaints about the program from many business owners and landlords. Complaints include insufficient notice, service interruptions, surprising new fees and problems with billing.

I am determined to push the City to fix these problems, and I have created an online survey to help me quantify and detail the problem. The survey has 11 multiple choice questions and should take about five minutes to complete.

Please click here to complete the quick online survey.if you have not done so already.

Thank you very much for your participation and for all that you do to make neighborhoods on the Westside great places to live, work and enjoy. It is an honor to serve you and I greatly appreciate your partnership.

  1. I lease and manage many commercial single tenant and multi tenant properties. The major complaint from me the owners and all my colleagues is that this new service has increases prices more than double. Why is that? The second complain is that with these exlcusive contracts a monopoly is given and if the owner is unhappy with the company there is no alternative.
Trash Pick up has been pretty much the same so have not had many complaints there. The Waste Companies are all pretty much the same. The 250% increase in pricing is ridiculous however.
