Westchester Parades for 2015 Fourth of July

Loyola Blvd in Westchester was lined with onlookers for the 14th annual Fourth of July parade. There were floats, performing wheelbarrows, vintage cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, fire engines, dignitaries– Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Senator Ben Allen, Councilman Mike Bonin, Captain Nicole Alberca–marching bands, marching groups and clubs, marching dogs, a Wells Fargo stage coach drawn by horses, and of course, Uncle Sam.

Otis College of Art and Design float, which it is assumed was called “World is in Your Hands” won the Chairman’s Choice award. It was Venice resident Robin Murez’s class at Otis who constructed the float and it was her students and their friends who were in the parade.

Robin Murez later wrote that the name for the float was titled “Whose Puppet?” “As in who is pulling the strings making profound choices that affect our planet and jeopardize our American Beach Party (the Westchester Parade theme, this year).”
