Venice Update

News of Venice, CA and Marina del Rey CA

Comments–7 February 2013

Mark R of Windward area …
In the event you might have missed this, in its January 31, 2013 issue,
the Argonaut quoted Coastal Commission analyst Chuck Posner as saying:
“the beach storage container is considered development under the Coastal
Act and would be required to have a permit.”
The VSA alerted the Board of the VNC to this fact in a letter from our
attorney before the Board’s recent vote on this matter. So, those of
the Board who voted to approve the placement of the container on the
beach were in essence voting to support the City’s violation of the
Coastal Act….which is continuing as I write this note.
Keep this incident in mind when a few residents are clamoring for a CDP
in other instances, such as the Beachhead crowd’s continuing refrain
that a CDP is necessary for the City’s 1989 12-5 AM beach curfew (which
our attorney advises is exempt under the exercise of a municipality’s
inherent right to use police powers to address a public nuisance or
public safety issue).
A certain element in Venice, including the president of the VNC, wants
the Coastal Act enforced and a CDP required when it satisfies their
political agenda (opposition to OPDs), but not when it hampers their
enablement of transients’ occupation of Venice’s public space, such as
the Venice Beach Recreation Area.
Ah, the hypocrisy of it all.

Diane L of Carter …
There is a dead cat at the corner of Lincoln & Jefferson Way that has been there since early Wednesday am.  I called the vet across the street to let them know and see if they would pick it up and scan it to see if it was microchipped. I thought they would have done something by now but obviously not.  So if you can let everyone in the Triangle know that if they are missing a black long haired cat with some white on the paws, that is where it is…sad.

Reta M of Update …
Many have been stating they are not getting the Update.  I don’t know what is happening.  I’m not using Boogie for return address this time; perhaps, that will help.  Try putting the address “retamoser@gmail.com” in your contact list of addresses and it should accept.  This last month, names have been dropped and I have not been notified via email.  People have let me know they are not getting it.  One person hasn’t gotten the Update since December.  I don’t know what is happening.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.
