VNC to Hear Storage Container, OPD Lawsuit Statuses

New storage container placed in parking lot of Los Angeles Police Department substation at Venice Beach.  Container is larger than one owned by Department of Recreation and Parks that was going to be used.  When storage of belongings for homeless will start is unknown at this time.  It is hoped that all homeless with belongings will use storage container so that they can go to the shelter.  Homeless can go to shelter only if their belongings are the size of a back pack.

Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC) will meet Tuesday to hear presentation by Arturo Pina regarding the storage container pilot program and to hear representatives from city attorney’s office, department of transportation, and council office regarding status of city’s lawsuit against Coastal Commission regarding Overnight Parking District (OPD).
`           Normally, VNC meet is third Tuesday of the month, but because 1 Jan was on Tuesday, meet is being slipped to 22nd.  Meet as usual will be at Westminster Elementary School, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd, 7 pm.
VNC will hear presentation by Arturo Pina about the winter storage container pilot program that will be going into operation soon and operate until 1 March.  Normally, all such programs go thru the VNC.  Councilman Bill Rosendahl bypassed the VNC.
Matthew Kline, VNC community outreach, wrote: “Rosendahl initiated the Winter Shelter Storage Program without prior input from the VNC.  Mr. Pina will present details of the program, which offers homeless persons the opportunity to store belongings in containers before boarding buses to the Westside Winter Shelter, located at the West LA Armory.  Following the presentation and public comment, the Board will vote on a motion to support the program.
The board will also vote on a motion seeking expedited support and funding from the council office to install speed-monitoring radar signs on Pacific Ave by brooks to improve safety.
