Art Crawl Announces Winners of “My Venice Holiday” Poster Contest

The Venice Art Crawl, a Venice Chamber of Commerce hosted event, is proud to announce the winners of their third annual “My Venice Holiday” Poster Contest.

The competition was especially stiff this year, according to VAC President Sunny Bak, since a record 200-plus children from local elementary schools submitted artwork for the contest.

The all-star artists, by grade, are:

Kindergarten: Rocco Bushnaq, Coeur d’Alene Elementary.

1st Grade: Rowen Killian, Walgrove Elementary.

2nd Grade: Jacob Masi, Coeur d’Alene Elementary (his third Poster Contest win).

3rd Grade: Miette Moon-Sasik, Broadway Elementary.

4th Grade: Elizabeth Martinez, Westminster Elementary.

5th Grade: Sarit Avedon, Coeur d’Alene Elementary.

The six winners will be publicly honored on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the annual Venice Sign Lighting, at the intersection of Windward Avenue and Pacific Avenue in Venice.

Their prize bags are packed with donated treats from the new Venice Ben and Jerry’s, Huzzah’s, Mittels, Burro, and the game Creature Quest, among others.

In addition, LA Unified Board Member Nick Melvoin and Assemblywoman Autumn Burke will present the children with official certificates acknowledging their participation in keeping Venice’s legacy as a thriving art colony alive.

The Venice Art Crawl, a 3-time winner of The Argonaut’s “Best Non-profit On The Westside” Award, produces pop-up parties that showcase the signature art, culture and entertainment that put this beachside community on the map. Savvy locals and visitors have made their events some of the most popular on the Westside.

The VAC has an exciting line-up planned for 2018, and is celebrating its 8th year in action by adding a few new twists. In the past, each Venice Art Crawl consisted of several events in various parts of Venice, all held on the same evening from 6-10PM.

The new format will keep the same hours but each Venice Art Crawl will be centered in one specific location, so more people can more easily see more events. The 2018 VAC Calendar is::

March 16, 2018 — Windward Avenue.

May 18, 2018 — Venice Boulevard

July 20, 2018 — Washington Boulevard.

The fourth and last VAC of 2018 will be the Venice Afterburn in September, once again on the Venice Boardwalk near the skate park. Dates TBD. Local artists, DJ’s, and performers who appear at Burning Man share their work, music, theme camps, art cars, interactive installations, etc. with their community

The Venice Art Crawl is whatever you make it: visiting an art studio, enjoying colorful projections on the sides of buildings, joining a drum circle, experiencing a live painting on a street corner, engaging in a block party, beholding a psychedelic light sculpture, meeting cool people, being a volunteer—enjoying the intersection of art and community.

The VAC mixers will happen at various sponsors locations on the third Thursdays of the months of no art crawls: January 18, February 15, June 21, August 16, October 18, November 15 and December 20. Mixers connect artists with venues and artists will have a opportunity to show their work. The January 18, 2018 mixer will be at Hama Sushi,213 Windward Ave, Veniceand there will be a $5 donation at the door.
