Group to Restore Venice Blvd Shows “Great Street” is No Longer “Safe Street”

A group of people joined together to form “Restore Venice Blvd” and they are dedicated to restore the removed lanes.   This is their film and it is self-explanatory.

One wonders if the council office will intercede with the increase in traffic accidents. Accidents are mounting and it is no longer a “great street” that is a “safe street.”

With 40,000 residents only a few more than 400 surveys were sent out.The surveys did not mention lane removal.   There was never an Environmental Impact Report and one questions why.  The lane removal has certainly had an impact.

Much to the surprise of the audience, which was standing room only, the Mar Vista Neighborhood Council voted last month to keep the lanes as is for six more months and then reevaluate.  Both co-chairs for the “Great Streets” committee and the transportation committee voted to restore the lanes but the vote was still 8 to 3 to keep the experiment.

Business is down.  One business owner has four businesses involved and he says his business is down 25 percent.  Traffic has diverted into residential streets and made residents unhappy.
