Bonin Stays Course with Debate; Ryavec, Rudisill Back Out

LOS ANGELES – City Councilmember Mike Bonin today thanked the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils – a group of neighborhood councils from every part of Council District 11 – for offering to host a debate between him and his two challengers, and expressed disappointment that his opponents have apparently backed out.

“I believe strongly in the democratic process, and enthusiastically agreed to debate my two challengers in a forum organized by a very well-respected organization in a location centrally located in the district,” Bonin said. “I was glad my opponents agreed and I look forward to discussing my track record getting things done for our neighborhoods.”

The Westside Regional Alliance of Councils, which includes the Pacific Palisades Community Council, the Brentwood Community Council, the West LA/Sawtelle Neighborhood Council, the Mar Vista Community Council, the Venice Neighborhood Council, the Del Rey Neighborhood Council, and the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa – had announced that it was sponsoring the debate on Monday February 27, 6:30 pm, at the Windward School – a central location with parking available. After agreeing to participate in writing and allowing WRAC to announce that the forum would take place, however, Bonin’s two opponents backed out.

“I made a commitment and I intend to keep it,” Bonin said. “I will be showing up as scheduled, and if I am the only candidate there, I will take questions and hold a Town Hall meeting.”

“Local leaders from every part of the Westside came together to host this forum so voters could learn more about the candidates,” said Jay Handal, former president of the West LA/Sawtelle Neighborhood Council. “It is very disappointing that Mike’s two opponents are showing these neighborhoods such an incredible disrespect by confirming and then retreating from the their promise to appear. The voters of this district deserve better than people who break even the simplest of promises.”

If Bonin is the only candidate that has confirmed for the debate. It speaks volumes about the other two candidates. The election is turning out to be even more of a cakewalk for Bonin. He will win before the first vote has been cast.

You have to read the post after the one you commented about. Ryavec had a conflict of schedule for the 27 debate. There is a debate 16 February and both Rudisill and Ryavec have accepted invitation; Bonin, is unknown at this time.

Neither of Bonin’s opponents confirmed for this debate. The organizer decided to move ahead with it without a commitment, giving Bonin yet another non-issue to campaign on. With so many important issues facing CD11, why is Bonin continually choosing to make this race about things like debates?

Bonin will win by a landslide. Get used to it Bonin is going to be around for a long time. And that’s the fact”Jack”

I am judging the candidates on their actions. And I’m going to make a prediction here. Based on his actions Mike Bonin will easily win re-election. There’s not going to be any run-ff election either. Mark Ryavec will be lucky if he can even garner 1,000 votes. He couldn’t even win a seat on the Venice Neighborhood Council. He’s a mean-spirited demagogue who is only liked by a small handful of other mean-spirited demagogues. And if he continues to use the Wellers in his campaign literature I hope they file a lawsuit against him and ruin him financially.

Debating about debates. The oldest of political ploys in politics.

Judge the candidates on actions and not words.

If that was the case Bonin would lose in a landslide.

Mark Ryavec is afraid to debate Mike Bonin. And his supporters actually think he’s going to win this election ? LOL.
