Campaigning Goes Big Time in Venice This Election

campaign lit

Can you top this? Look at the flyers. If you haven’t received a flyer in the mail, you do not live in Venice. And you probably have had someone knock at the door. If you want to know more about the candidates and their future thoughts for the office sought, get the Venice Update edition dated 24 May. There are banners, magnetic car stickers, slates and probably more. The Venice candidates are acting like the pros.

The following campaign literature was brought to Update’s attention. It is not in keeping with the calibre of the other literature. It implies that one will loose 50 percent in his property rights if slate promoted is not voted in. Not true but not totally untrue. The former mass, scale, and character draft from ad-hoc committee recommended a FAR of .45 to .50, which would mean that one could only build a structure 50 percent the size of the lot. Not a workable situation for small-lot Venice according to comments. That was the first draft and it is being updated. One architect recommended 1.25 FAR. These drafts have not even passed the draft stage enough to go to the Venice Neighborhood Council for acceptance. Even after that, it would be up to the City to accept such. So consider the facts. Also there is a status of the draft by Sue Kaplan, chair of the ad-hoc committee, in this Update.

  1. The BID needs to be voted down in Venice. Carl Lambert feels very insecure about living in Venice these days. Venice can still be safe without all the extra safe guards which are really meant to protect Real Estate values.

  2. Lee

I’ve hardly had any flyers(2), nor did I receive the VNC candidate newsletter. Disappointing, but not surprising.

  3. We need to get the cameras Bonin had put up on the boardwalk taken down. At least %60 of them need to be taken down. If I were a tourist I”d feel stalked and insecure while trying to enjoy my stay at the boardwalk area.

  4. We need more housing for low income, and the homeless. Let’s do this in Venice instead of trying to go to war with us through gentrification and manipulation. The word is out and Venice is on the brink of becoming the homeless and low income helper of the world. Nobody wants to be poor. Everyone loves Venice California. Vote Lydia Ponce.

  5. Seems to me like their is a nasty war going on in Venice. End the war on the homeless, and low income who are under represented here in Venice. Vote down OPD’s, and allow 300-500 plus units for low income in Venice. Allow the homeless to live in Venice Homeless Housing while giving them support to get them living a better quality of life. Everyone deserves the best here in Venice. Vote: Lydia Ponce.

I’ve worked my ass off for 20 years to live in Venice and raise my daughter in a safe area. I do NOT want my neighborhood put at risk by activists who want transients, drug addicts and the homeless living next door to me in a homeless shelter. I am all for helping the homeless but not to the extend that the safety of myself and my young daughter is as risk. The homeless who are in the grips of mental illness and drug addition have no place living in a homeless shelter in a residential area next to my home.

      • Not only do you have a dirty mouth Venice Mom but you also discriminate against the homeless. I really think in my opinion you need mental help. Venice is on the verge of stream lining how to help the homeless and do it in Venice and you are the one complaining. Jealous haters like you are also what aggravates the homeless issue. I never thought I would see the day when people with jobs in Venice are jealous of people who are homeless. I’m also seeing that people with jobs in Venice are also sick of homeless people because the homeless smile more often and are happier than employed people. That to me says so much. Money can’t buy happiness. This is why we need to Save Venice. http://www.savevenice.me

  7. Lydia Ponce, Rick Selan, Mark Lipman, Mike Bravo. They are all good and trustworthy.

That is bullshit. They have no concern for the families of Venice and even go to the extent to bribe the homeless with food and bus them to the voting area to vote for them.

      • One word is “wow”. You don’t have to go on a cussing storm to let others know how you feel. You just can’t do that to people in America. You can’t just point the finger and say that guy needs to be locked up in a mental hospital for life. There is no law against being homeless. I can’t believe it’s come to this, where people with jobs are jealous of people with mental problems. I’ve met the craziest nicest people in the world in Venice California. Venice Mom, you are one crazy woman, and I’ve got no problem with that. I do have a problem with you discriminating against the homeless. You are doing just that, and keep denying it. There are people that care about the homeless and low income enough to want housing for them here in Venice California. I’m sure you do work hard and been here 20 plus years raising your children. Just do it without cussing so much.

LivingisfreeinVenice. I didn’t think “bullshit” was cussing. So very to offend your fragile soul. Have a nice life. God bless.

Hello LivingisfreeinVenice at my expense. I didn’t think “bullshit” was cussing. So very to offend your fragile soul. God bless.

          • I’m not sorry I took the time to teach you a lesson. Look, you got a problem with the way the city is handling this, call out the National Guard. They came out to Venice during the riots, maybe they’ll come out to help you smile again. You need help. And you’re the one who didn’t want to discuss this even further, remember? Just don’t forget, homeless people have rights in Venice.

      • You make it seem like we need to call out the National Guard Venice Mom. I really wish you luck with your situation. I just can’t believe it, I’ve seen it all now. People with jobs feeling jealous homeless people smile more than they do. It’s getting really crazy in Venice now. Send out the troops Venice Mom, the world is going loopy. People pooping on lawns and living on the streets are happier and all of a sudden, it’s time to sweep them all out for smiling more often. This is why I love Venice, so let’s Save Venice. http://www.savevenice.me

  8. Here is a guy you can trust. Vote for Rick Selan.
