Campaign Literature Varies

Venice Neighborhood Council candidates are reviving up for a hotly contested campaign this year by the looks of the campaign literature. The VNC has consistently ranked number one in 97 Los Angeles neighborhood councils for getting out the votes. Indications are that this year will top the all-time record set four years ago which was 1622 votes. Prior to 2012, votes were in the 1200 range and last election they were in the 1500 range, still topping the other 97 council districts but a disappointment for the activist community of Venice.

Based on 70 candidates, if each of them can generate 25 supporters to the polls the turnout should be at least 1,750! Based on the amount of new faces, I get the feeling the incumbents who are running might have a problem as well as long-term board members seeking another position. The amount of new faces represents a changing, more youthful look. The race for LUPC as well as Vice-president seem the most interesting.
